What do Dominicans expect from Abinader’s speech?

El Caribe

Today, February 27, marks the 178th anniversary of National Independence and President Luis Abinader will be accountable to the country from the National Congress for the second time.

In this address, he will explain how his management was in the last 365 days of government and in what the General Budget of this year will be invested.

The Dominicans are focused on the speech that day, since their expectations are that the president addresses the issues that they understand are the most important for the Dominican Republic, such as the high cost of living, citizen insecurity, measures against the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the rise in fuel prices and police reform.

This was confirmed yesterday in the opinions collected by elCaribe through a survey carried out in different locations in the country. Among the people approached, university professors, professionals, students, merchants, informal workers and housewives stand out.

A great expectation has been created with the world situation that is being experienced. President Abinader does not escape this concern, which is the clamor of the people: the concern about the rise in prices, of all items, “all have risen.”

The comment corresponds to Jhovany Peña, a language professor at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo. Both the professor and the majority of those consulted understand that the Executive must address the issue of rising prices, especially the basic basket. Remember the inflation that affected the Dominican economy last year, caused an increase of RD$3,177.99 in the cost of the family shopping basket, impacting the poorest families more.
