The Road Safety Observatory (OSV) issued its report corresponding to the road accidents evident in October 2024, the month in which at least 306 traffic accidents were recorded throughout the country with a death toll of 143 people; 113 men and 30 women.
Likewise, around 394 injured people were counted through an underreporting taken from local and regional media; which gives a total of 442 citizens who were affected in a traffic accident.
Regarding those who suffered injuries from traffic accidents, 250 were men and 130 were women.
The OSV indicated that of the total number of deceased people, at least 60 were motorized, which represents a percentage of 42.2% of the cases that were evident, followed by pedestrians (17%), vehicle drivers (14%), passengers (11%), grillers (9%), passengers in public transport units (3%) and cyclists (3%).

Regarding pedestrians, the report indicates that the largest group affected was adults over 65 years of age, followed by people between 50 and 64 years of age; from 25 to 39 years old and from 15 to 19 years old.
In the month of October, 120 traffic accidents classified as “simple crashes” were recorded, representing 39.34% of the total incidents; 54 windings (17.70%); 46 skids – cases that directly involve motorized vehicles with or without companions – (15.08%); 36
collisions with fixed objects (11.80%); 22 overturns (7.21%); 18 multiple crashes (5.90%); seven exits from the tracks (2.30%) and two in the “other” category (0.60%).

High rate of traffic accidents in Yaracuy
According to the media Yaracuy al Día, at least 13 people died in road accidents during the month of November; Therefore, the eleventh month of 2024 is considered the “most violent” so far; events that mostly had motorcyclists as victims in the municipalities of Peña, Independencia, José Antonio Páez, Nirgua, San Felipe, Bruzual, Veroes and Urachiche.
They warn that the young population was the most affected by these accidents, which has been a trend throughout the year. To minimize them, Governor Julio León Heredia activated night operations to prevent the circulation of motorcycles after 10 p.m.
The run over of two elderly people was also reported.
