To mitigate the effects of noises in the Colonial Citythe Association of Owners and Residents of the sector proposes a citizen awareness campaign and greater control over land use permits by the authorities competent.
Those were part of the conclusions of the conversation carried out by the Association of Homeowners and Residents of Colonial City. The meeting not only revealed the impact of noise in the residents of the historic center of the country, but also that it laid the foundations to advance in actions that prioritize the coexistence and well-being.
The day called:”Towards a Colonial City Noise Free: Solutions and Actions”, representatives of the Pedro Henríquez Ureña University (Unphu), the Group Neighbors Against Noise, from the Mayor’s Office of the National District, from the Comprehensive Tourism and Urban Development Program for the Colonial City (Mitur/BID) and the Santo Domingo Tourism Cluster.
During the conversation a mapping of noise on the spot, carried out by Professor Moisés Álvarez, from Unphu, with the collaboration of students and citizens. The study has begun to document the areas most affected by the noise pollution in the Historic Center, serving as a basis for future mitigation strategies.
Neighbors of the Colonial City They talked about the main sources of noise that affect them, such as business music used in patios and rooftops, grocery stores, evangelical churches, motorcycle clubs groups or improvised concerts in public spaces such as Parque Colón on Sundays. In this sense, they expressed the need for a greater presence of the municipal authoritiesNational Police and Digesett, especially on weekends.
The dogs of Colonial City
It is said that the dog is man’s best friend and that is what a group of canines who daily surround the Altar of the Homeland, where the challenges of the fathers of the Nation rest, seem to understand. On the sides they spend their time sleeping and waiting. Sometimes they receive caresses from tourists who do not know the word “realengo” or “viralatas.”
They live in the old city without being bothered, there is no known attack on people, they just live as a family, without fights or threats to walkers. They walk freely through the old streets and some good Samaritans feed them or eat leftovers in garbage cans, but they live and are fat.
Meanwhile, the Mayor’s Office of the National District nor any authority has been interested in them and they are already part of the daily life of Colonial City.
