Drivers can choose to recategorize their license based on the following criteria:
- AIIa license: minimum 2 years with the AI certificate.
- AIIb license: minimum 3 years with the AI license or 1 year with the AIIa license.
- AIIIa license: minimum 2 years with the AIIb certificate.
- AIIIb license: minimum 2 years with the AIIb certificate.

Requirements to recategorize
- To carry out the recategorization process, it is necessary to meet the following requirements:
- Present an original and valid DNI or immigration card.
- Previous driver’s license (original and copy).
- Proof of having completed the Driver Training Program (Cofipro).
- Not have sanctions, outstanding fines, a driver’s license withheld according to the National Registry of Sanctions, nor be suspended or deprived of the right to drive.
- Finally, it is necessary to have passed the medical, traffic rules and driving exam for the category being applied for.
