The president of the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy (SNMPE), Victor Gobitzdescribed the expansion of the Comprehensive Mining Formalization Registry as a “wrong measure” (Reinfo) for six months, approved by Congress. The business union considers that this measure favors the interests of illegal mining and its partners.
Gobitz considered that policies that have failed are continuing, such as the Reinfo case, which has been going on for more than 22 years and “has only generated impunity for illicit activities.”
“Congress should have dedicated itself to solving the underlying problem and, therefore, technically debate the MAPE Law (Artisanal Mining and Small Mining), perfect it and approve it, with the aim of achieving a governing standard that contributes to creating a orderly small and artisanal mining and that with the support of the State the “chaff is separated from the wheat,” he emphasized.
The head of the SNMPE called on the new Minister of Energy and Mines, Jorge Luis Montero, to work together with Parliament, in order to approve a new Mape Law, through an analysis and technical debate.
“We hope to see a real sense of urgency, both from the head of Minem and from the Energy and Mines Commission of Congress, to close once and for all this temporary registry (Reinfo) that has now been expanded for the third time,” express.
He urged “sensibility” and the “interests of Peru” in the debate on a new Mape Law.
