The dancer, choreographer and researcher from Minas Gerais Angel Vianna died this Sunday (1st), aged 96. The death of the artist, a dance reference in Brazil, was announced in posts by Angel Vianna Escola e Faculdade de Dança, based in the Botafogo neighborhood, in Rio de Janeiro.
“With great regret, we announce the death of our dear Master Angel Vianna. With serenity she left us filled with her light and wisdom. Forever Angel!”, says the note.
In the death note, which does not provide information about the cause of death, the family informs that they held an intimate ceremony this Sunday in São Paulo, and that they will soon release details about the 7th day mass in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo. Paulo and Belo Horizonte.
Maria Ângela Abras Vianna’s academic and artistic training in classical ballet was at Ballet de Minas Gerais, with professor Carlos Leite; in fine arts, at the School of Fine Arts of Belo Horizonte, and in music with maestro Francisco Masferrer.
Her pedagogical work with dance began when she founded the Klauss Vianna Dance School with her husband Klauss Vianna, where the Klauss Vianna Ballet was created. “Where he was also a soloist in pieces choreographed by his partner, always looking for a new ballet with Brazilian characteristics”.
In 1999, he received from the then president Fernando Henrique Cardoso, the Diploma of Admission to the Order of Merit of Culture, in the Class of Knight, for his relevant contributions to Brazilian culture. Another relevant title was in 2014, when Angel Vianna received the Comenda Máxima Grand Cru, from the Order of Cultural Merit, from President Dilma Roussef. In addition to these, in 2019, she received the Title of Honorary Citizen of the City of Rio de Janeiro.
In the area of higher education education, she was a professor at the School of Dance at the Federal University of Bahia from 1963 to 1964; held the Chair of Body Expression in the Music Therapy Course at the Brazilian Conservatory of Music; and the Chair of Body Expression (Physical Education) of the Artistic Education Course with a specialization in Music.
With her extensive career in education, she was also a teacher of the discipline Artistic Education/Bodily Expression of the Lato Sensu Postgraduate Course, with a specialization in Education, a promotion from the government of Amapá in partnership with the Institute of Advanced Studies in Education (Iesae) from the Getulio Vargas Foundation.
