Penarol conquered this Sunday the Uruguayan Championship after winning the Clausura Tournament and closing a spectacular season in which they also dominated the Apertura Tournament and the accumulated Annual Table. Diego Aguirre’s men won 3-1 against Phoenix with another great game from Leonardo Fernández, who scored his eighth free kick goal of the year and became the top scorer in 2024 with 14. Eduardo Darias and Guillermo Pereira in their own goal completed the Aurinegro exhibition.
With this title, Peñarol took revenge for what happened last year when they lost the final with Liverpool, while Aguirre wrote a new page in the history of the club he loves.
