The Venezuelan Prison Observatory (OVP) warns about the critical situation experienced by people with HIV detained in Venezuela due to the lack of a prevention, care, treatment and epidemiology program with a gender and sexual diversity focus in the country’s prisons.
Regarding World AIDS Day, which is commemorated this December 1, the NGO assures that “the “The lack of public health policies in the prison system not only puts those deprived of liberty at risk, but also prevents an effective response to the health crisis.”

“This day also invites us to think about the rights of the most vulnerable people, including women and men deprived of liberty,” says the post published in X.
On the other hand, the organization expresses its solidarity with NGOs that work to care for people with HIV and support the sick in prisons. In this sense, they call on the authorities and civil society to guarantee adequate access to health, without discrimination, for all those deprived of liberty.
