Najayo, San Cristóbal.- The vice president of the Republic, Raquel Pena, inaugurated this Sunday the Najayo Arriba Community Housing Center, in the town of the same name in the San Cristóbal province, delivering 50 eco-friendly homes to the same number of families who had lost their homes after Hurricane George in 1998.
“This Community Housing Center is a project that we have designed to transform lives and has been built with environmentally friendly materials, as part of our commitment to sustainability and respect for the environment. The construction of this project energized the local economy, generated jobs and strengthened the social fabric of that community,” said the vice president.
At the event, led by the vice president and the general director of the Strategic Projects and Special Programs of the Presidency (Propeep), Roberto Ángel Salcedo, the delivery of the homes was formalized, ending more than two decades of waiting on the part of the affected families.
For his part, Roberto Ángel Salcedo assured that the housing project reflects the vision that the president, Luis Abinader, has of transforming lives and guaranteeing a better future for the most vulnerable.
“Today the Government, with the human face of Luis Abinader, honors the commitment to these families from Najayo Arriba, who for 26 years waited for a definitive solution to their vulnerable living condition… These families lived in overcrowded conditions in a designated place in the La Marina sector, without previous authorities being interested in relocating them so far,” Salcedo explained.
He added that with these actions the Government reaffirms its commitment to social justice and the well-being of vulnerable communities, closing a chapter of inequality and opening one of hope and progress for beneficiary families.
The new homes, located north of the 6 de Noviembre highway, were designed to guarantee decent and sustainable conditions, incorporating solar panels and complete equipment that includes stoves, refrigerators, washing machines, televisions, furniture and dining sets, beds, blenders and toasters , among other essential household items, in addition to food rations.
The housing center has quality infrastructure: paved streets, sidewalks, containers, drinking water, electricity and storm drainage systems, as well as a perimeter fence and a deposit for the disposal of solid waste.
Multipurpose in Quita Sueño
The route continued in Quita Sueño, Haina, where the vice president together with the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, inaugurated the roof of the Santa Cruz Sports Club, a structure that will benefit hundreds of athletes from this district and other surrounding areas.
This work had been requested for more than 20 years, and today, thanks to the will and interest of President Luis Abinader, it was built in record time. From now on, residents will be able to practice disciplines such as basketball and volleyball without difficulties.
Minister Cruz highlighted the importance of multipurpose, pointing out that it represents another step in the Government’s commitment to Dominican sports.
“Today Quita Sueño receives not only a sports facility, but also a public space that promotes leadership development through social cohesion. Here, in addition to sports practice, meetings, celebrations and social, religious, political, community and festive activities will be held,” Kelvin Cruz added.
The roofing included the placement of a plank, baskets, stands, lights, bathrooms and other facilities.
Christmas Lunch of Change
The fifth lunch held with community members from different areas of the country took place this Sunday at the end of the route through the South zone, where Vice President Raquel Peña met to share with 600 municipal residents who welcomed her with joy and talked with her.
The vice president assured that these lunches mean something very special to the central government, and that they send a message of peace, love and fraternity for all Dominicans.
“Christmas is a time to renew our faith, reflect on what we have achieved together, be grateful for the blessings received and strengthen family and community ties,” the vice president dictated while recognizing the work and effort of the community members.
Peña recalled the different benefits that the Government is distributing for the enjoyment of citizens this Christmas: the Christmas Bristle, bonuses of RD$ 1,500 pesos so that millions of families can enjoy the holidays with dignity and Christmas parks in different provinces, promoting family unity and coexistence.
The vice president concluded this Sunday’s day by wishing you a Christmas full of peace, love and joy.
“Let us move forward with more strength and determination, this 2025 we will continue to build together a more united, prosperous and supportive country,” said Peña.
