The budget situation of the National Institute of Cardiology is critical: Ignacio Chávez

The general director of National Institute of Cardiology Ignacio Chávez, Jorge Gaspar Hernández, reported that the rbudget reductions and multiple restrictions to the management of contracts, carried out by the federal government during this year, has led to a “critical situation.”

In a message to the institutional community, dated in Mexico City on November 27, requested understanding and solidarity with the Institute during the phase it is going through.

“During the year 2024, the Federal Public Administration has made budget reductions and multiple restrictions on hiring management. This has affected the acquisition of the necessary supplies for the proper functioning of the Institute: for patient care, for a favorable work environment and for the work in progress,” his letter quotes.

The scarcity of resources in the year that is about to conclude, he assured, “to name just a few examples” has had an impact on the “difficulty of obtaining medical devices, adequate food for staff or financing for construction.”

And he expressed “the board’s commitment to persevere in implementing strategies to resolve in advance the shortcomings and obstacles we face, with the firm resolution that we will have to move forward.”

Item of 1,810.4 million pesos

According to the draft Expenditure Budget of the Federation (PEF) for the fiscal year 2025, of the total expenditure for “Ramo 12 Salud” for 66,693.1 million pesos, 1,810.4 million pesos correspond to the Ignacio Chávez National Institute of Cardiology.

For “Public Function and Good Government” 173.9 million pesos will be allocated, of which 5.5 million pesos correspond to the Institute for current spending; 5.4 million pesos are for personal services and 118,839 for operating expenses.

Of the 22,308.3 million pesos that will be allocated to “Provision of organized and integrated National Health System services”, 1,197.5 correspond to the Institute, of which 726.2 million pesos are for personal services and 471.3 for operating expenses.

For “Training and training of human resources in accordance with the needs and demands of health care” it is projected to allocate 7,840.2 million pesos, of which for the Institute it is 71.1 million pesos; for personal services 68.4 and 2.7 million pesos for operating expenses.

For “Administrative Support Services” 2,691.6 million pesos are budgeted; For the Institute it will be 38.6 million pesos, of which 34.0 and 4.6 million pesos will be used for personal services and operating expenses.

To “Provision of organized and integrated National Health System services” 11,010.5 million pesos would be assigned, of which 374 million pesos would correspond to the Institute for “other current” expenses.

2,445.3 million pesos are projected under the heading “Relevant health research and academic excellence”, of which 12.3 million pesos will be allocated to the Institute, which will be used for personal services and operating expenses: 107 and 16.2 million pesos, respectively. .
