The Medellín Council approved the highest budget in the history of the city, with a total of more than 11 billion pesos. With 19 votes in favor and one against, this amount will be used to promote development in key areas such as education, infrastructure, security and social programs. The decision, led by Councilor Santiago Perdomo as coordinator of speakers, seeks to address the current needs of the population and project a more promising future for the city.

A much larger amount will be dedicated to strengthening the educational system. This approach includes improvements in the infrastructure of institutions, as well as the expansion of programs to guarantee that children and young people have access to quality education. In addition, investments will be prioritized in infrastructure projects that allow the city to be modernized and optimize public services.

According to the Mayor’s Office, of these resources $8.79 billion will be allocated for investment, $1.23 billion for operation and $616,583 million to meet debt obligations.
Mayor Federico Gutiérrez described this as “a great achievement for Medellín,” as it establishes “a budget that will allow us to invest where it is truly needed, achieve key projects and improve people’s quality of life.”

The Secretary of the Treasury, Orlando Uribe Villa, highlighted that the sectors with the highest allocations are Education, with $2.03 billion and a growth of 40.5% more than the previous year, followed by Health with $1.58 billion, and Physical Infrastructure with $890,982 million, and with an increase of 18% and 218% each, respectively.
