On November 29, the Workers’ Federation of the Meat and Related Industry (Foica) announced that a strike would take place the next day 24 hour national general in the sector, in response to the “lack of agreements within the framework of collective bargaining at the level of the salary council”, something that was not very popular with the large landowners in the countryside.
“Despite the efforts made on our part to reach fair and balanced agreements, the lack of concrete progress by the business chambers forces us to make this decision,” reads the Foica statement announcing the strike.
One of the landowners who reacted with harsh criticism was the senator for the National Party, Sebastián Da Silva, an important livestock businessman. “I didn’t want Friday to go by without thanking Foica for this wonderful surprise strike they made. They don’t know how the cattle are doing locked up in the corrals, in this heat”, he said on his social network account X.
Concerned about the economic impact on his company, he added: “A precious loss of kilos for an indebted producer. Thanks for screwing people over so well. Harmful unionism”.

“You are the face of defeat and abandonment”
To this post, Foica responded from her official account: “We didn’t want to let Friday go by without greeting you either. We’re glad you’re okay. Just one thing, if you are going to defend the Producers, how did you cowardly do that Sunday, leaving your voters, poor Producers, stranded in defeat? Hug Seba!!!”
The legislator, far from leaving things there, replied: “Coward? My voters were canvassing. And I went to see them. Keep screwing people over. “They have 5 good years to do it.”
Foica continued in the conversation saying: “FOICA 82 years of history with dozens of defeats against its workers, but here we are. I know you abandoned at the first opportunity, you are too small for the FOICA, you are not the face of defeat, you are the face of abandonment. Bye!!!!”
For his part, Carlos Febrero LĂłpez, another agricultural producer, also criticized the union strike: “You mess with the cows, not the industrialists.you keep sucking those guys. Those who pay in duck are the cows that feed you a bottle. You mess with the market, you can defend all the claims you want, and I know what I’m telling you. And what I’m talking about. When they made the last picket, you didn’t go to Minerva or Marfrig, or to the stones, you grabbed the smallest one, the one who pays more than the award. So don’t do it live, there are few of us and we know each other, baby!”
