The Assembly of Delegates to the 40th National Congress of Livestock Breeders decided “the convenient and necessary continuity of the participation of the executive president of the Colombian Federation of Cattle Ranchers in the Government delegation in the negotiations with the ELN”.
With this phrase, Óscar Daza Laverde, president of the Board of Directors of Fedegánrevealed the decision taken on Thursday night during the Guild Session attended by delegates from the livestock committees of the different regions.

In his closing words, he encouraged producers not to be just passive subjects of “Our own security, which is the constitutional responsibility of the authorities, is true, but it also requires our participation, not only as a citizen duty, but as a right.”.
The manager expressed that the easiest thing is to demand that the authorities and the Public Forces “Protect us, because it is your duty to do so. The most effective thing is to help them fulfill that duty, because this collaboration is also our civic duty. This is one of the principles that inspired the creation of the Livestock Solidarity Brigades and the Security and Peace Solidarity Fronts.”.

He also referred to one of the themes of the Congress: sustainability. “We firmly believe that sustainable livestock farming is the key to a future of greater commitment to nature and greater productivity for the sector, based on the growing implementation of responsible and sustainable practices.”.
Regarding the Land Agreement signed more than two years ago with the National Government, Daza Laverde indicated that the Assembly ratified the union’s commitment to continue complying.

“And he has done it. However, we will continue to promote the offer of more land for agrarian reform, inviting, of course, the national government to accelerate the process of purchasing what has already been offered.”.
