The case of Sara Camacho, who was only 5 years old, unleashed fury and helplessness in Guamal, Meta.

News Colombia.

In the heart of the municipality of Guamal, Meta, the heartbreaking silence of a tragedy shocked everyone. Sara Camacho, a girl of only 5 years old, was found lifeless in her home, the victim of an atrocious act that left an indelible wound in the collective memory of her community.

The little girl, whose future was cruelly taken away, became a symbol of the horror that so many minors continue to experience in the country.

The main suspect in this femicide and sexual abuse is Wilton S., the minor’s stepfather, who called the authorities to report what happened.

However, upon arriving at the scene, the police officers discovered something heartbreaking: Sara’s body, wrapped in a sheet, with signs of physical violence and abuse that revealed inhuman suffering.

Later, a Forensic Medicine report would confirm what no one wanted to accept: Sara was not only murdered, but also previously raped and abused.

This heartbreaking discovery ignited a flame of indignation that culminated on the night of Thursday, November 28, with a community riot.

Neighbors, unable to contain their fury and pain, set fire to the house where the alleged aggressor lived. Although Wilton was already in the custody of the authorities, the residents of Guamal demanded immediate justice.

There was an riot after Sara’s discovery

The rage of the inhabitants of Guamal, a reflection of the deep pain they feel at the violence against the most vulnerable, overflowed in a desperate act.

They burned the house and the motorcycle of the alleged feminicide, believing that the man was hiding there. Later, it was confirmed that Sáenz had been transferred to Villavicencio, where he will face charges of aggravated femicide and aggravated violent sexual assault.

Images of the angry community spread across social media, evidencing the level of indignation and the demand for justice.

«We cannot continue to allow our children to be victims of monsters. This has to stop«was heard among the shouts of the protesters.

Who will protect the innocent?

Sara’s case is not an isolated event, but one more link in the long chain of violence that affects children in Colombia, one of the most recent, that of Sofía Delgado in Villagorgona, municipality of Candelaria, Valle del Cauca, or that of the brothers Santi and Susan, murdered by their father in Bogotá.

According to the National Police, so far in 2024, 78,124 crimes against minors have been reported. The majority are victims of domestic violence, sexual abuse and neglect.

Today, Sara’s little brother, only 3 years old, is under the care of the authorities, protected from an environment that has already taken his sister away from him.
