The Ministry for the Penitentiary Service reported that by orders of the Ministry of the Interior and Justice, an intervention operation was carried out in two detention centers in the state of Lara. It was not reported whether any type of illicit material was seized.
The Ministry for the Penitentiary Service intervened in the Sergeant David Viloria Penitentiary Center and the Fénix Penitentiary Community, located north of Barquisimeto, Lara state.
The information was confirmed by the entity itself on its social networks. He indicated that it was an operation that is part of the operation called “Gran Cacique Guaicaipuro.” The ministry reported that this was led by the minister of the area, Julio García Zerpa.
The police operation included a deployment of security forces, including patrols, buses, motorcycles, tanks and trucks.
The intervention in the aforementioned detention centers was carried out by order of the Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace, Diosdado Cabello, under the argument of “guaranteeing order and security within the prisons, as well as respect for the human rights of the inmates.” internal”.
Minister Garcia Zerpa stated that the operation is part of an effort to improve conditions in penitentiary centers and promote the social reintegration of inmates.

The minister thanked the different civil, military and police organizations that have collaborated in this operation, which has shown “positive results in recent days in other penitentiary centers in the country.”
No details were given about whether they dismantled criminal gangs that operated from these places, as happened last year when similar operations were carried out in prisons such as Yare, Tocorón or El Dorado.
