On Thursday afternoon, and under the careful observation of delegates of the Broad Front and the National Partythe opening of the envelopes containing the observed votes of the elections. This process was carried out at an almost frenetic pace, thus culminating the departmental scrutiny in the last outstanding department and concluding the nationwide count.
The winning formula of the Frente Amplio, headed by Yamandú Orsi and accompanied by Carolina Cossemanaged to obtain a total of 1,212,833 votes, which is equivalent to 49.8% of the total. On the other hand, the duo of the National Party, with Álvaro Delgado and Valeria Ripollreached 1,119,537 votes, representing 45.9% of the total.
In the general count, there were recorded 39,542 blank votesequivalent to 1.6% of the total, along with 64,654 envelopes with nullified votes, which represents 2.7%. In addition, 214 observed votes were rejected, corresponding to 0.01% of the total.
At 2:00 p.m., in an office of the Electoral Court located in the Bella Vista neighborhood, the officials organized themselves at the tables intended for counting the votes observed. Each of the voting envelopes arrived in a light blue envelope, which was distributed among the tables – 253 or 254 per table. After receiving instructions on the procedure to follow, they began to open the envelopes one by one, some more carefully than others, while others were torn more hastily.
Regarding the votes observed in Montevideo, there were not many surprises.
