The Board of Directors of the Colombian Institute of Family Welfare (ICBF) approved the creation of the temporary plant for community mothers. The determination will benefit women from 141 municipalities in 19 departments of the country.

According to the National Planning Department (DNP), this first phase will allow the progressive formalization that was established in the National Development Plan to begin. In total, the project will formalize 2,353 community mothers of the 40,469 in the national territory.
“This has been a constant fight that community mothers have led and that today is reflected in another great step that has been taken. It is a vindication of the rights for these women who have dedicated their lives to caring for children in Colombia”highlighted Alberto Bejarano, director of Social Development of the DNP.

Bejarano also pointed out that the entity will continue working to achieve that 100% of these women are formalized.
It is worth remembering that the national government and the participating entities of the ICBF Board of Directors, such as the DNP and the Ministry of Equality, have agreed on a final socialization with community mothers that allows complete articulation to dignify their work.
