The chief of the Nova Esperança village, in the Rio Gregório Indigenous Land (TI), Biraci Junior Yawanawa, reported this Wednesday (27) that a criminal faction had invaded the territory, located in the municipality of Tauara, in Acre (AC). The area is inhabited by the Yawanawá indigenous people and the Katukina Pano, who share the same language, Pano.
In a video posted on social media, the Yawanawa leader said that members of the organization attacked people from another village. He alleged that children were beaten and women were raped by the group of invaders. “Hostages are being taken and I am very worried. The situation is serious,” he said.
The chief highlighted that, despite being aware that, by exposing himself, he becomes vulnerable, he did what he thinks is right and understands that there may be a conflict. “So that nothing worse happens, we ask the authorities to move and help the Kamanawa relatives [um dos clãs dos katukina pano].”
The Acre State Department of Justice and Public Security (Sejusp) confirmed the presence of criminal organizations. The ministry informed yesterday, through the note, that it had already launched an operation in another village in the TI, Katukina, and clarified that coordination is the responsibility of the Federal Police. According to the secretariat, the state government helped with the contingent and logistics, making aircraft available, as it is an area with difficult access.
Federal police officers, military police officers, civil police officers, as well as garrisons from the Special Border Group (Gefron) were assigned to the operation, who were traveling to the municipality of Cruzeiro do Sul (AC), from where they would leave to respond to the call for help. done.
“The actions are being carefully planned and executed, and all measures are being adopted to guarantee the safety of the Katukina people and other peoples of the Rio Gregório Indigenous Land”, added Sejusp in the message.
