On Wednesday, November 27, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) granted precautionary measures on behalf of the professor and deputy to the Legislative Council of the state of Zulia (CLEZ), Eduardo Labrador, who was arbitrarily detained on October 18 while traveling to Colombia to visit his daughter.

According to the communication of the IACHR, Labrador is in a “serious situation” and regretted that there is a lack of information and protection measures by the State in favor of this person, which is why they believe that a case of “lack of protection and vulnerability” is evident. in the context of the country” both for the citizen in question and for all other political prisoners.

For this reason, they demand that the Venezuelan authorities adopt the measures that are necessary to protect the personal integrity of Eduardo Labrador and indicate whether he is in the custody of the State and what the circumstances of his detention were or, if not known, inform What were the measures to know his whereabouts. Additionally, if you have already been brought before the competent courts and review your detention, in case charges have already been brought against you.

If that is the case, “the State is requested to report on the status of the criminal file that has been opened against the beneficiary, and allow access to family members and legal representatives,” as well as specify whether Labrador needs medical attention. and provide you with the necessary support.

The IACHR urged the administration of Nicolás Maduro to implement the necessary measures that allow the CLEZ deputy to carry out his political activities without being the subject of threats or harassment; as well as taking actions in favor of the beneficiary, their family members and representatives.

The IACHR, on the other hand, reported that the precautionary measures in favor of the coordinator of Vente Venezuela, Maria Corina Machadoin view of the situation that occurs in the country after the elections and the persecution to which he is the object, along with several members of the political organization, were modified.

Reviewing his case, he said that his precautionary measure remains in force and, although the measures are not expanded, it does extend the scope of those already known by requiring the State to, in addition to protecting the life and integrity of Machado , you are told if there is any judicial process in progress and you are told what crimes you are accused of, the prosecutor’s office and the judicial authority handling the case.

“The State must allow the beneficiary and/or her representatives to access the entirety of the criminal file against her, if it exists, allowing her to present the corresponding appeals and guaranteeing her security in the processing of the same,” highlights the text. .

It also asks that the events that gave rise to the adoption and validity of these measures be investigated and that threats and acts of violence be verified, including those that could have been carried out by officials of State security forces.
