The machinery and equipment sector recorded growth in October, with the sector’s total net revenue totaling R$26.3 billion, which represents an increase of 11.3% in relation to the previous month and 6.4% in the annual comparison.
The balance was released this Wednesday (27) by the Brazilian Association of the Machinery and Equipment Industry (Abimaq). The increase was driven by the improvement in exports and sales in the domestic market.
Sales in the foreign market grew 8.2% compared to the previous month. Compared to the same month in 2023, there was a slight drop of 0.6%, after the 12.2% growth recorded in September 2024. According to Abimaq, the drop compared to the same period in 2023 was due to the contraction in relative prices (-5.2%).
In terms of quantity, there was growth of 5.4%. In the month, exports reached US$ 1.407 billion, the best result of 2024. In the year to date, the accumulated result was 7% below the result of 2023 (January to October), maintaining the recovery trend.
Imports totaled US$2.7 billion in October, 6.1% more than in September and an increase of 32.4% compared to the same month last year.
Apparent consumption in the machinery and equipment sector – which considers total domestic industrial production and imports, minus exports – increased by 10.5% in the monthly comparison. Compared to October last year, there was an increase of 21.6%.
