Parlacen deputies lead the day for the eradication of Gender Violence

Diputadas del Parlacen lideran jornada por la erradicación de la Violencia de Género

Santo Domingo, DR. – The sub-headquarters of the Central American Parliament (Parlacen) in the Dominican Republic, together with the Commission for Women, Children, Youth and Family, commemorated this Wednesday, November 27, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women with an impressive activity held at the intersection of Abraham Lincoln and 27 de Febrero avenues.

The event was led by Dominican deputies Margarita María Cedeño Lizardo and Esmeralda Mancebo, who reaffirmed their commitment to the fight against violence against women. Representatives Silvia García Polanco, Krimilda Acosta, Socorro Monegro, Catalina Olea, and Margarita Pimentel also attended.

Esmeralda Mancebo” highlighted Margarita Cedeño Lizardo.

For her part, Esmeralda Mancebo called for collective awareness about political violence against women, pointing out that this limits their full participation in decision-making spaces. “The construction of an inclusive democracy will only be possible when all forms of violence, including politics, are eliminated and women can contribute without fear to the development of our nations,” he stressed.

During the activity, theater students from the Mauricio Báez Modalidad en Artes Center performed an artistic performance at the intersection traffic light, visually impacting passersby with the message “No to violence against women”. The staging was directed by professor Carolyn Sánchez and Husmell Díaz, group coordinator.

The event was also attended by Parlacen deputies, who supported the importance of promoting concrete actions that guarantee the well-being and protection of the rights of women in the region.

This activity joins international efforts to make visible and combat gender violence, remembering that gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but an indispensable condition for building just and equitable societies.
