PEC rapporteur that bans active military personnel from politics gets PL

Days after the indictment of several active military personnel for attempted coup d’état, Bolsonaro deputy delegate Paulo Bilynskyj (PL-SP) was chosen, this Tuesday (26), to report on the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) 21 of 2021 that prohibits the participation of active military personnel in politics and in civil public administration positions. The choice of rapporteur was a decision made by the president of the CCJ, federal deputy Caroline de Toni (PL/SC). PEC rapporteur that bans active military personnel from politics gets PL

Bilynskyj is a supporter of former president Jair Bolsonaro and the Amnesty bill (PL), which provides for the pardon of those convicted of an attempted coup d’état linked to January 8, 2023, when supporters of former president Bolsonaro invaded the headquarters of Power, in Brasília (DF), calling for a military coup.

Presented by deputy Perpetua Almeida (PCdoB/AC) in 2021, when several active military personnel held positions in the administration of the Bolsonaro government, the PEC seeks to prevent the involvement of active military personnel in party politics to avoid the politicization of troops.

“The aim is to protect the Armed Forces (FFAA) from normal conflicts inherent to politics, and to strengthen the nature of the Navy, Army and Air Force as permanent institutions of the State and not of governments”, explained Congresswoman Almeida.

Representative Bilynskyj did not comment on his choice to report on the PEC, but came to Bolsonaro’s defense within the scope of the investigation investigating an attempted coup d’état with the participation of active military personnel.

“In the PF’s 800-page report there is no proof of President Bolsonaro’s participation in any fact,” he stated on a social network.

In the Senate, another similar PEC, 43 of 2023, was approved by the Constitution and Justice Committee and awaits a vote in the plenary. In the Senate, the proposal is opposed by senators linked to former president Bolsonaro.
