Luis Alberto García on the anniversary of 27N: “They bet on the country we should have”

SLP, Mexico.-East November 27on the fourth anniversary of the sit-in carried out by artists, journalists, activists and others in front of the Ministry of Culture of Cuba (MINCULT) to demand dialogue with the officials of that institution, the actor Luis Alberto García remembered that act of bravery by the Cubans with an emotional text on his social networks.

In his Instagram post he celebrated, with a fragment of the film Life is whistlingby Fernando Pérez, “the act of faith that strong Cuban men and women carried out in that sit-in in front of the Cuban Ministry of Culture.”

Those who stood up against MINCULT were betting “on the country we should have,” he said. However, and as he acknowledged, “it ended up being truncated and stigmatized in very bad faith by morally and ideologically blind people to the eternal damage of our nation.”

“They had the opportunity to make Homeland in their hands but they passed it by,” he argued.

In his words, Luis Alberto García regretted not having been in Cuba at that time. “I missed sitting on those sidewalks singing the National Anthem and the songs of my Ayatollahs ‘giving the watercress’ that I believe in.”

Among the plaintiffs were the playwright Yunior García, the artists of plastic Julio Llópiz-CasalReynier Leyva Novo, Camila Lobón and Tania Bruguera, and the filmmakers José Luis Aparicio, Miryorly García and Mijail Rodríguez.

During the meeting, The demands were read by the writer Katherine Bisquet: Review and transparency of the judicial process against Denis Solís; Freedom of Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara (LMOA); Right to have rights, freedom of expression, free creation and dissent; Cessation of defamation and discredit by official media; Recognition and respect for independent positioning; and No more police violence, no more political hatred.

After that day, from which the Movement 27Nthe repression against activists and artists on the Island continued. With this, the regime violated the agreements made on November 27, 2020. Many of the members of 27N have been forced into exile and have continued their demands from other places.
