On a day marked by great expectations, the elected president of Uruguay, Yamandu Orsi, offered his first press conference in the Executive Tower. This act symbolizes the official beginning of the government transition process, a fundamental step in the preparation of your administration.
During the conference, Orsi stressed the importance of collaboration and openness in this new stage: “Today we began this transition process. The doors are wide open to work together,” he stated, highlighting the diversity in the formation of his work team.
One of the key announcements was the appointment of Alejandro Sánchez as the person responsible for coordinating transition efforts with the current Presidency team. “Alejandro Sánchez will be the one to contact the people from the Presidency to begin the exchange of information,” Orsi explained.
The president-elect also emphasized the efficiency of this process, highlighting the shared will that be “oiled” and “agile”. In this sense, he emphasized: “As we Uruguayans are accustomed to in all transition processes, without delays and surprises”.
More names that will accompany Orsi
Orsi revealed that Gabriel Oddone will be proposed to lead the Ministry of Economy, although he stated that other appointments will be communicated in due course. Regarding future decisions, he commented: “My idea is that when we can fully define, we will transmit it, accordingly.”
The problem of metropolitan mobility was also a topic of discussion. Orsi recognized the current challenges: “Today the number of vehicles entering and leaving the capital is a problem, but also the lack of incentives in public transportation.”
Regarding the participation of the opposition in his government, Orsi was clear in affirming his commitment to inclusion, although he specified: “I do not have it in mind for the cabinet, but where there is the possibility of comptroller positions, we are going to continue with the same line”.
He also expressed his intention to strengthen compliance with current legislationespecially in critical areas such as gender-based violence.
Lastly, Orsi touched on themes of foreign policyreferring specifically to the controversy over the possible invitation to the Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro for his assumption. “When there are difficulties of a diplomatic nature like the one we are having, a parenthesis opens that will be seen when the time comes,” he said.
