Media in Colombia affirm that the invitation from Venezuela already reached the hands of President Gustavo Petro

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Colombia, Luis Gilberto Murillo, He stated on Tuesday, November 26, that the government of President Gustavo Petro will respond “in due course” to the invitation extended by the administration of Nicolás Maduro to attend the president’s inauguration, scheduled to take place on January 10.

In an appearance to the media, Murillo emphasized that Bogotá’s position continues to be the request for data disaggregated by election table and center in order to validate from Colombia the results that would support Maduro’s victory in the elections.

«We will respond to the invitation in due course, but I want to take this opportunity to tell you why I think there is a misunderstanding. We have been clear that if there are no minutes, there is no recognition. I saw some discussions on the subject, Colombia’s position has been clear (…) what we said, and the President raised it, that he was reviewing the process, he gave an opinion (…) but we have remained,” he highlighted.

According to Colombian media, Gustavo Petro has already formally received the invitation from Venezuela to take office.

Colombia, together with an initiative that it was promoting together with Brazil and Mexico, were seeking to mediate with the Venezuelan authorities so that the National Electoral Council (CNE) published the detailed minutes by centers and tables so that they would support the bulletin that proclaims Maduro as victor.

However, this action was formally abandoned by Mexico once President Claudia Sheinbaum assumed power, saying that her country remained neutral. Then, after various impasses, the Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, pointed out that the problem with Maduro and the elections is Venezuela’s and not Brazil’s.
