Mayor Professor Magallanes raised his concern about the situation of the Cooperative
The Half Hour Before the last ordinary session of the month of November of the Departmental Board of Cerro Largo was once again a favorable environment for a Councilor to express his deep concern about the situation of the COLEME Dairy Cooperative.
This emblem of departmental and national cooperativism is going through complex moments that were brought to the heart of the departmental deliberation once again in less than 30 days.
Remember that, at the beginning of the month, when the sending of 14 workers to unemployment insurance was announced, it was Mayor Fabián Magallanes who made a proposal with similar characteristics.
“Given the situation that our dairy cooperative COLEME has been going through, which led to the sending of 14 officials to unemployment insurance, a group of Councilors received them and listened to us to learn about such a situation first-hand” remembered the Professor Waldemar Magallanes.
“In recent days we have learned from the various media outlets that the situation of the cooperative could be described as serious to the point that the possibility of closing the plant is being evaluated.” The Departmental Legislator of the National Party explained in the Chamber.
“When I say our cooperative it is because that is how the citizens of Cerro Largo feel” he emphasized. “COLEME was born in a public institution at the initiative of its Director at the time: I am talking about the Industrial Agrarian School of Melo. It emerged with the support of many producers and the Departmental Government” he added.
“As mentioned here in the last Session, in recent years the Departmental Government was once again part of the solution to the problems that said cooperative had been suffering” mentioned later by Professor Magallanes.
AGRICULTURAL PROMOTION AND SOCIAL POLICIES
“I wonder: wouldn’t it also be nice to have the possibility of listening to information from the cooperative authorities? For this reason, Mr. President, I pass my concern to the study of the following Commissions: Agricultural Promotion of this Board because I understand that it is the one that has jurisdiction to deal with the issue of production and the dairy industry. Also to the Social Policies Commission for the loss of employment of more than 50 officials, which would end up being the loss of income in more than 50 families and 50 homes.” the Legislator raised with concern.
“For this reason, I ask that my words be passed on to the two Commissions. I also want to ask, as I was part of the document that was read by Mr. Edil Fabián Magallanes in the last Session and he happened to request that the topic be referred to the Commissions, I am asking that those words be attached as well” Professor Waldemar Magallanes concluded his presentation during the Half Hour Before the last Ordinary Session of the Departmental Board.
