Sebastián Sabini: “We did our best to recover the government for the vast majority”

Reelected senator Sebastián “Tati” Sabini reflected on the recent electoral campaign, the performance of the opposition and the priorities of the Frente Amplio for the next period of government.

Sabini highlighted the collective effort of his political force, criticized the confrontation strategy of the ruling party and outlined the main challenges that the country will face.

A campaign of closeness and dialogue

Sabini valued the work carried out during the campaign, claiming the policy of proximity as one of the fundamental pillars. “We traveled throughout the country, we met with productive, social and cultural organizations. We seek to reestablish the link with citizens and with the organizations that represent them,” he stated. In that sense, the recovery of seats in both the Senate and the House of Representatives stood out.

The senator emphasized that the Broad Front was committed to dialogue from the beginning, integrating it into its government program and not based on the results of October 27. “We gave our best, we left every last breath to recover the government for the vast majority,” he told La R.

Criticism of the ruling party’s campaign

Regarding the role of the opposition, Sabini regretted the tone of confrontation and disqualification used. “It was a campaign marked by grievance, mockery and minimization of the rival, not based on arguments, but on qualifications,” he said, referring to comments such as that of the ruling party’s vice presidential candidate, Valeria Ripoll, who described the Frente Amplio as “the worst in history,” and publications that promoted a “homeland without the left.”

The senator called for reflection on this style of politics, supporting the need to build democracy and community through dialogue. “We aspire to another Uruguay, more integrated, with national agreements. Yamandú raised it from day one as a pre-candidate,” he highlighted.

Priorities for the future

Facing the challenges that the country will face, Sabini identified three priority areas: child poverty, security and education. “It is unacceptable that this government has allowed the increase in child poverty in a framework of economic growth. “Any country that seeks social justice must address this issue urgently,” he said. He also highlighted the need for security agreements to reduce levels of violence and resolve the failure of the prison system in social reintegration.

In educational matters, Sabini advocated long-term policies that require a recovery and increase in investment. “Without education there is no sustainable development, and that must be one of the main focuses,” he stated.

“I like challenges”

Regarding his future role, Sabini was enthusiastic about the challenges that political management entails. “I was in management, it was extremely stimulating. Otherwise, from Parliament I will continue working with the same desire as 15 years ago,” he concluded.
