Who are the new leaders of Morena in CDMX?
Héctor Díaz-Polanco, president of the State Steering Committee
He is originally from the Dominican Republic and has studies in Anthropology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and in Sociology from the College of Mexico (Colmex).
He has a long history in academia and as a member of the research team of the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt) and the Center for Research and Higher Studies in Social Anthropology.
Since 2012, he was part of the group close to the former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Together they designed and traced the route for the formation of Morena as a political group, until in 2014 it obtained its registration as a party.
Between 2012 and 2020, he chaired the National Council of Honesty and Justice of Morena. Subsequently, he assumed the presidency of the Board of Directors of the Congress of Mexico City in 2021 and from 2022 to September 2024 he served as a deputy in the second legislature of the capital’s legislature.
Alicia Barrientos Pantoja, general secretary of Morena in CDMX
Originally from Veracruz, Barrientos Pantoja was a member of the Democratic Revolution Party and founder of the Morena party.
As a social fighter, Alicia Barrientos participated in various organizations dedicated to the management of housing and public services, such as the Popular Urban Movement, the Girasoles Group of Iztapalapa and the Democratic Coordinator of Mexico City.
She is close to the head of government, Clara Brugada, whom she has supported in different activities since the party’s internal election leading up to the 2024 elections.
Gerardo Trejo, Secretary of Organization
He has a degree in Political Science and Public Administration with a specialty in Political Science from the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences of the UNAM. He also has studies in the Bachelor’s Degree in Latin American Studies from the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the highest House of Studies in the country.
He is national advisor of the Morena party and political leader in Azcapotzalco, a mayor’s office governed by Nancy Núñez, his wife. Both were the main promoters of the campaign of the head of government, Clara Brugada, in that district.
Francisco Muñoz Trejo He was elected as Secretary of Education, Training and Political Education. He was a local deputy in the first legislature and took office as a substitute for former Coyoacan representative Carlos Castillo, both of whom were close to former PRD leader René Bejarano.
Benita Ramirez Orduña will be the new Secretary of Finance and as Secretary of Women, Fanny Zapp Estradaformer mayoral official Venustiano Carranza, belonging to the group of federal deputy Julio César Moreno.
