Minimum wage 2025 in Mexico: This is how the increase would look like next year

What did the president say?

The head of state referred to the issue of minimum wage in his press conference on October 3, in which he recalled his proposal to reach 2.5 basic baskets at the end of his mandate and that requires an increase in the minimum wage close to 12% per year.

“That we sit down with businessmen and workers’ representatives, that the minimum wage continues to increase, our objective is for each minimum wage to reach 2.5 basic baskets, now it is at 1.6. We are working on it with economists so that it does not impact inflation. That would mean a salary increase of around 12% next year and so on every year,” Sheinbaum said.

The National Minimum Wage Commission (Conasami) is the body in charge of reporting on the increase in the minimum wage for 2025. However, the declaration of constitutionality has not yet been issued.

On October 9, The Senate approved in general and particular with 124 votes in favor the reform to article 123 of the Constitution to order that general and professional minimum salaries are not below inflation. This reform is one of the 20 that Andrés Manuel López Obrador presented as president.

What would be the minimum wage in 2025?

Currently it is 248.93 pesos per day and 374.89 pesos per day for the Northern Border Free Zone, so an increase of 12% would represent an increase of 29.87 pesos and 44.98 pesos, respectively.

In the event that it is published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF), The minimum wage for next year would be 278.80 pesos per day and in the Free Zone of the Northern Border it would be in 419.87 pesos per day. However, this amount requires the endorsement of employers and workers.
