The long-awaited Disney sequel, “Moana 2”is about to hit theaters on November 27, and the first reactions from critics are already setting the trend. This new chapter picks up the story three years after the events of the original film, with Moana facing a new epic challenge to break the curse of the island of Motufetu. Accompanied by Maui and a new team of explorers, this new installment promises intense emotions, memorable surprises and an even more dazzling visual experience.
An all-star cast and endearing new characters
Auliʻi Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson return as the iconic voices of Moana and Maui, respectively, alongside other talents such as Temuera Morrison, Nicole Scherzinger and Rachel House. In addition, new voices are added such as Khaleesi Lambert-Tsudawho plays Simea, Moana’s younger sister, a character that has been well received by critics thanks to her charisma and relevance to the story.
Music and animation at the highest level
The soundtrack is provided by Mark Mancina and Opetaia Foa’iwho worked on the first installment, along with the composers Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear. Although the songs have been described as emotional and full of heart, some critics have pointed out that they do not reach the iconic level of songs like “How Far I’ll Go.” However, the animation has been widely applauded, standing out for exceeding the standards of the first film, taking the visual experience to an impressive level.
