No to violence against women, November 25, a day of reflection

With interventions in the main squares of the city and a march along Aparicio Saravia Street with the subsequent reading of a proclamation, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women was remembered this Monday in Melo.

This date of reflection and awareness was instituted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1999 and began to be institutionalized in 2000.

In Cerro Largo the day began with a Press Conference that took place at the Specialized Police Station for Domestic and Gender Violence.

“We thank the Police Station for welcoming us on its 32nd anniversary on a day as important as November 25, International Day for the Eradication of Violence against Women” he started saying Virginia Arbondi.

“We are fulfilling a demand so that all these forms of violence can be eliminated, can be ended. It is a very important day, it is a day to continue reflecting and making visible all these manifestations of violence in order to be able, among all the institutions that we are part of, to do more articulated work in order to end these forms of inequality that exist between men and women. . That is a gender subordination that has been passing through us. The idea is that we have a more just society.” stated the member of the Departmental Commission for a Life Free of Gender Violence.

PROBLEMS THAT AFFECT WOMEN, BOYS AND GIRLS

“We are all here motivated and as a result of having the commitment assumed in the face of this very important fight that belongs to everyone and that without a doubt commits us and involves us more every day because without a doubt every day this is a problem that affects to many women, but also to many girls and many boys” alerted the Gender Secretary of the Municipality of Cerro Largo.

“In this Departmental Commission this year we have had a very important agenda to work towards the eradication of this problem, especially in our department” pointed out the Teacher Sonia Gómez.

He explained that among the activities promoted by the Commission this year, the regular monthly meetings that strengthen the space, the Violence-Free Dating campaign and the Don’t Believe campaign promoted by UNICEF that seek to raise awareness and reflect on the impact that violence has stand out. towards women also in the lives of boys, girls and adolescents.

ABOUT 25 WOMEN ON THE AGENDA PER WEEK

“As part of the response system against domestic violence and gender-based violence, we have care services that operate under an agreement between INMUJERES-MIDES and the El Paso Civil Association” informed the Social Worker Yandira Álvarez.

These services provide psychosocial and legal care to women victims of domestic violence. “Violence committed by partners or ex-partners is particularly addressed” accurate.

“The care service is absolutely free and can be accessed by women over 18 years of age” he commented. “It is not required that there be a prior complaint but the service can advise you in this regard” he added.

“This response system that is provided together with other public institutions is of utmost importance, it has been a very important milestone in the response to violence, however this is not enough” he warned. “Today the services are overwhelmed. We are scheduling an average of 25 women per week” revealed.

“In this context it is difficult for the support to be of the quality required by the problem and its complexity” said Yandira Álvarez.

“All this requires political will and a budget” he synthesized. “More budget is needed for the responses to be truly effective and for the Comprehensive Law, 19,580, to really be put into practice with all the guidelines it has because it is a very appropriate tool to be able to respond to these situations that today “It is not being possible due to lack of budget.” he assured.

IT IS NOT A DAY OF COMMEMORATION BUT OF REFLECTION

Dario Torres He highlighted the work that the Specialized Police Station for Domestic and Gender Violence has been carrying out in the territory. “More like the articulation that has been done for many years” he acknowledged.

“I don’t want to overlook my gratitude to those who are here and to those who passed through here too and who physically, even today, are not with us, but I know that they gave a lot of themselves to keep this going.” he stressed.
