Violence against women, which plagues Nicaragua, claimed the life of a 14-year-old girl, a resident of the Buena Vista community, in the municipality of El Viejo, Chinandega. This girl is the 77th victim of sexist violence, so far in 2024.
The girl with the initials OSAD, who had recently turned 14, was reported missing by her family on November 20 and, four days later, the Police and the Institute of Forensic Medicine managed to confirm that some charred human remains They were found near where she disappeared, they corresponded to the girl.
Local news outlets in Chinandega reported that the Police captured the minor’s uncle, named Elocadio Díaz, also known as Juan Díaz, as the main suspect of killing the minor and then incinerating the body to try to erase evidence, but neighbors of the man smelled the cremation of the body and when they went to check the site they found remains of clothes that turned out to be those that the teenager was wearing on the day of the disappearance.
Sexist violence claimed 77 lives so far in 2024
The Observatory against Violence against Women of the organization Catholics for the Right to Decide, in its most recent report, released this November 25, regarding the international day of the fight against violence against women, details that, Between January and November 24 of this year, at least 76 women and girls have lost their lives as a result of sexist violence. Counting OSAD, the report summarizes a total of 11 minor women between the ages of 13 and 17 murdered in 2024. Women between the ages of 18 and 35 were murdered, 37 of them, this being the population group most affected.
The organization summarizes a total of 15 victims between 35 and 58 years old; and at least 12 older women lost their lives at the hands of violent men.
Victims remain close
Catholics for the Right to Decide specifies that of the total victims, 15 were murdered abroad, mainly in Costa Rica.
At the national level, 14 women lost their lives due to sexist violence in Managua, 13 on the North Caribbean Coast, 6 in Matagalpa and 5 in the South Caribbean. These being the most affected regions.

The perpetrators continue to be people close to the victims. The document indicates that at least 23 women were murdered by their partners, another 17 lost their lives at the hands of strangers, the rest were victims of acquaintances or relatives, but always close people.

Catholics for the Right to Decide points out that, according to known statistics, judicial action remains minimal in cases of sexist violence.

Another missing 13-year-old girl

According to the Facebook information page of the communicator María Auxiliadora Aragón, the girl Dania Sulmary Pacheco had disappeared from her home, in Juigalpa, since the early hours of Sunday.
The communicator reports that, according to the family, the minor was at home in the morning and then, when they looked for her, she had disappeared without saying anything and until this Monday her whereabouts were unknown. The relatives have already filed a formal complaint for Dania Sulmary to be searched for, at the same time they are asking the Juigalpina population for help in finding out about the girl.
