The famous physicist Albert Einstein is credited with saying that there is an opportunity in every crisis. Under this logic, today Bolivian journalism is full of opportunities. There is a complex and polarized reality where misinformation is the order of the day. There is also a society that needs to build its own opinions to decide freely. And there is—and here comes the opportunity—, journalists committed to investigating, contrasting and telling the facts independently, as is the case of the journalism that is done from EL DEBER.
It is based on this opportunity that we launched this innovative strategy that begins today and closes on December 10. The Multimedia Group EL DEBER, with more than 70 years of existence and as the main digital media in Bolivia for 26, and CONNECTAS, a pioneering platform and leader in the region in journalistic collaboration, carry out the first campaign of this type, in which Anyone who believes and is interested in supporting quality journalism is invited, so that they can join with their contributions that will be used to produce more information and analysis on the challenges facing the country.
The invitation is to support more verified information, which allows citizens to make better decisions and break the gaps. Hence the name of the campaign: “THE DUTY is to support independent journalism, join freely.”
For example, there can be thousands of Bolivians who leave Bolivia every day in search of opportunities, but who remain informed of what is happening in the country where they were born. Media such as EL DEBER have committed to bringing to light facts that can only be known through journalistic investigation, but to achieve it they require the union of efforts, wills and resources.
This campaign is part of the initiative “ValueJournalism” of the ARCCO.info organization, who joins as an articulator of human, technical and methodological resources, to guarantee that the main destination of the contributions collected is the production of quality, truthful and independent journalistic pieces, on key issues for the democratic strengthening of Bolivia. It is to open a great information forum for Bolivians inside and outside the borders.
