The “Koldo” is a case in which irregular payments are reported in the awarding of public contracts during the administration of Pedro Sánchez.
After being arrested, Aldama has indicated that he implicated Spanish Government officials in acts of corruption. Sánchez, however, has responded that he was not aware of the payments with irregularities.
The case gains its name from Koldo García, former advisor to José Luis Ábalos, who was Minister of Transport in Spain. He and Aldama would have been involved in the fraudulent agreements.
According to Spanish media, including El Mundo, Aldama, who headed international efforts during the Sánchez administration, had projects in his hands in which work was done with Mexico.
Aldama helped the Spanish public company Ineco to participate in the construction of the Mayan Train, an emblematic work of the Government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
The businessman himself has said that Murat and senators from Mexico helped him get his hands on the great project.
Koldo García, says Aldama, contacted him to carry out the negotiations with the Latin American country.
“He knew about me, my knowledge and my arrival at the Government of Mexico and the contacts I had in Mexico. So he asked me if I could give them a hand,” Aldama assured in front of Spanish authorities.
The businessman noted that he helped create an airline to connect Madrid with Oaxaca.
Alejandro Murat headed the Government of Oaxaca after winning the election supported by the PRI. Now he is part of Morena.
