The candidate of the National Party, Álvaro Delgado, accepted the defeat he suffered from Yamandú Orsi, the now elected president of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay. In the campaign bunker, on Boulevard Artigas, he was accompanied by members of the Republican coalition, in a speech that he said will be “the most difficult” he will give in his life.

“Perhaps it is one of the most difficult speeches I have given in my life,” the candidate for president of the coalition began, but assured that he is there to “respect” the result, which is the decision of the sovereign people.

“I want to send from here, with all the actors in the coalition, a big hug and greeting to Yamandú Orsi and the Frente Amplio,” said Delgado, who added that he congratulates him “from the bottom of my heart.”

“It is one thing to lose the elections and another to be defeated; “We are not defeated,” stressed the National Party candidate, who valued and thanked the effort and work carried out by all the leaders of all the parties.

The now former right-wing candidate also seemed willing to discuss and reach agreements with the Frente Amplio, now in the Executive Branch and in the Senate, where he has a majority. “Today Yamandú Orsi has the key to seeking national agreements,” Delgado remarked.
