After an intense day at the polls, The inhabitants of Cali, Jamundí and Puerto Tejada gave the “Yes” to create the new Metropolitan Area of Suroccidentea historic initiative for Valle del Cauca and which exceeded the thresholds required for approval.
“Now we are going to work with the mayor of Jamundí and with that of Puerto Tejada to quickly establish the area, everything that is the statutes, formally set it up and start making the work plan next year”said the mayor of Cali, Alejandro Eder.
In addition, he explained the first focuses that will be addressed for each area that makes up the Southwest Metropolitan Area and indicated that: “As we had spoken with the mayors, we are going to initially focus on security in Jamundí, on health in Puerto Tejada and on public transportation between the three municipalities.”
Likewise, the official highlighted the strength of democracy. “We are ready to continue working together for social and economic development,” he said.

Regarding what the votes were, Already with the previous results that gave support for the creation of this area for Valle del Cauca, they were the following:
In Cali, 104,416 citizens voted positively, 14,412 said “No”, 441 votes were null and 191 were blank; in Jamundí: 7,003 said “Yes”, 2,717 said “No”, 21 votes were annulled and 30 were blank; finally in Puerto Tejada: 3,006 supported the initiative, 2,001 rejected it, 31 votes were null and 31 blank.
“Thank you all very much for going out to vote and the team for the work that was done. Thank you for your trust!”, the Cali mayor told the citizens.
