Fernando Pereira celebrates the victory of the Frente Amplio and highlights unity as the axis of the future government

In a speech full of thanks to the militancy, Pereira declared: «The work of the militants always pays. Hope defeated fear. And the hope in Uruguay is the Frente Amplio. According to the projections of the Frente Amplista command, “there is a consolidated advantage in all projections. Clearly very far from the margin of error,” he added.

An extensive and close campaign

Pereira highlighted the effort deployed in the campaign, which spanned more than two and a half years of visits throughout the national territory. “We visited more than 320 locations and met with more than 1,800,” he explained.

The Frente Amplio leader also pointed out that the Frente Amplio is “the largest party in Uruguay for 25 years” and highlighted its ability to maintain a “consolidated territorial militancy and respect for all Uruguayans.”

A message of unity and dialogue

In relation to the dialogue with other political sectors, Pereira confirmed that they will talk with the white and red leaders who supported the Frente Amplista formula in this election, as well as with those who did not vote for them. «We are going to talk to everyone. “We want honesty to govern and we are going to work to guarantee a quality government,” he stated.

Furthermore, Pereira recalled Yamandú Orsi’s commitment at the end of the internal elections: “We come to unite Uruguay.” In that sense, he stated that the Frente Amplio will work to improve minimum pensions, salaries and the quality of life of the population.

Next steps

A key meeting will be held on Tuesday with the secretary of the Frente Amplio to assess the results and begin to outline the role the party will play in the new government. Pereira explained that, although the government teams have not yet been defined, the formation process will begin this week under the direction of the elected president, Yamandú Orsi.

Finally, the president of the Frente Amplio closed his speech with a thank you: «Thank you, thank you very much, thank you very much. Until I die, I am going to remember each one of those who went out to flip flops in every part of the national territory.
