This Sunday the Uruguayan people, faithful to their richest democratic and republican traditions, went to the polls and expressed themselves.
International eyes have fallen on our country, in this corner of the American continent, where the democratic system is one of the most robust in the world, which we jealously protect and is part of the civic DNA of every Uruguayan.
The constitutional reform of 1996 introduced improvements to the electoral system, establishing, among others, a runoff instance among the candidates with the most votes in the National Elections, when none of these exceeded 50%. This institution was created with the vision and wisdom of the legislator, where he leads the people to clearly determine who will have the greatest responsibility among the orientals. In turn, this electoral fair leads to recognizing and respecting that superior support, as well as assuming responsibility for the decision made.
In these instances we always remember Batlle y Ordoñez when he expressed “It is not that the people never make mistakes, but that they are the only ones who have the right to make mistakes”, the one who does not have the right to make mistakes is the ruler, that is why the new government who will take office on March 1, we wish him success and the wisdom to guide the Uruguayan people to a better future.
We salute and appreciate the tireless work of the militants of our Republican Coalition. Know that we will always be here to add, we will always be on the side of freedom, social justice and modernity, you will always find us there.
Long live Democracy!!! Hello People!!!
