Sebin arrests the former governor of Nueva Esparta Alfredo Díaz

Former governor Alfredo Díaz (2017-2021) left the island of Margarita months ago, after denouncing that he was being persecuted by security forces. According to the information obtained by relatives, he would have been transferred to Caracas to be presented to court. His daughter demanded that the reasons for his arrest be informed and what alleged crimes he is accused of.

Relatives of the former governor of the state of Nueva Esparta Alfredo Díaz denounced his arbitrary detention on the morning of this Sunday, November 24, at a National Guard command in the state of Portuguesa, when he was traveling by road.

Daliannys Díaz, one of the daughters of the former governor, reported that the last communication with the political leader was at 8:30 am when he informed them that he was detained in a GN command, waiting to be “interviewed” by a commission of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin).

«We have not heard anything from my father (…) We want to know where my father is. “My family, my sisters, all of his children are worried because we don’t know anything about him,” said the former governor’s daughter.

At 9:00 in the morning, the former governor told his wife Leynys Malavé who was still waiting to be “interviewed” by Sebin. “In a government where one cannot raise one’s voice, say things by their name, what is wrong is not possible.”

He called on the international community to focus on the situation. «Many hours have passed and I don’t know about him. He told me ‘I’m only going to an interview because I’m an honorable man, I haven’t done anything to anyone, only denounce the atrocities, only denounce those bad things that we all know’. “Not in vain are we seven, eight million Venezuelans spread around the world.”

He also asserted that “the regime only gives us four options: clandestinity, prison, death or exile. He stayed, he had the opportunity to stay with me and he came back and told me ‘I don’t want a wife without a country.’ “He returned to fight for his people.”

According to the information obtained by relatives, Alfredo Díaz would have been transferred to Caracas to be presented before court. His daughter demanded that the reasons for his arrest be informed and what alleged crimes he is accused of.
