At least 11 people died, including four children, in Israeli attacks carried out against Gaza in the early hours of today (24), reported the Civil Defense of the Palestinian enclave. This Sunday morning, the Israeli military issued new orders to leave the population of an eastern suburb of Gaza City, triggering a new wave of displacement.
Civil Defense announced the death of 11 Palestinians, “including children”, in two air strikes against refugee camps, in Al-Bureij and Al-Maghazi, in the center of the enclave, and artillery fire in Beit Lahia. Witnesses also reported to the AFP news agency intense artillery fire in the Al-Mawasi area (south).
According to the EFE news agency, four children died in these attacks. Hossam Abou Safiyeh, director of Kamel Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza’s Safiyeh Strip, was seriously injured overnight following a drone attack on the health facility.
Safiyeh was injured in the back and thigh by metal fragments after the attack on the hospital complex, Gaza Civil Defense spokesman Mahmmud Bassal told AFP, adding that the doctor was now “stable”.
“This will not stop us from completing our humanitarian mission and we will continue to do this work at any cost,” AbuSafiya said in a video statement released by the Ministry of Health.
“We are targets daily. They attacked me a while ago, but that won’t stop us,” he said.
The Kamel Adwan Hospital is one of the last that still partially operates in the Palestinian territory, which is facing a serious humanitarian crisis. Hospital staff have reported several strikes at the facility in recent days, and the World Health Organization (WHO) said it is deeply concerned about the situation of 80 patients, including eight in intensive care, and staff.
Hospitals in the Gaza Strip have been hit several times since the start of the war between Israel and Hamas, triggered by the Palestinian Islamic group’s unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, 2023.
The Israeli Army claims that Hamas uses these institutions as bases, hiding its activities among civilians, which the group and medical personnel deny.
Evacuation in Gaza City
The Israeli Army gave new evacuation orders to residents of the suburb of Shejaia, published by the Army spokesperson on the social network X.
“For your safety, you must withdraw immediately to the south,” said the soldier.
The north of the Palestinian territory is the scene of a major offensive, launched on October 6 by the Israeli Army, which says it wants to prevent Hamas from reconstituting its forces.
More than 44,000 people have died in Gaza since the start of the war, according to authorities in the enclave, controlled by Hamas.
