Dina Boluarte assures that "your government is not corrupt"but 82% of the country thinks otherwise, according to IEP

The latest survey by the Institute of Peruvian Studies (IEP) revealed that 82% of Peruvians consider that corruption has increased in the last 12 months, despite the fact that the president Dina Boluarte indicated in one of his speeches last Friday, November 22, that “there is no room in this Government for corrupt people.”

This Government is not corrupt and there is no room in this Government for the corrupt or for corrupters. “We are tired of this scourge that has done so much damage to the development of the country,” he declared. Dina Boluarte: what do Peruvians think, according to the IEP surveys, about corruption?

A study carried out by the pollster IEP showed the perception of citizens in relation to the growth of corruption in Peru in the last 12 months. In that sense, 82% of Peruvians consider that this scourge increased during the last year, while only 2% believe that it decreased and 17% believes that it remains the same, during the Government of Dina Boluarte.

However, Boluarte indicates that his “Government is not corrupt and there is no room in this Government for the corrupt or for corruptors.” It is worth remembering that on November 19, the Judiciary issued 36 months of preventive detention against his brother Nicanor Boluarte — who is in hiding — within the framework of the investigations into the case The Waykis in the Shadow.

Compared to the previous measurement in December 2023, there is a statistical increase in the responses of the people surveyed regarding the same question. Last year alone 70% believed that corruption had increased, unlike only 4% believed that it had decreased.

The national opinion survey was conducted between November 15 and 20 among 1,206 people, with a margin of error of 2.8%.

In a meeting with leaders of communal pots last Friday, November 22, the President Dina Boluarte addressed the economic and food situation faced by Peruvian families.
