The Charge d’Affaires of the European Union for Venezuela, Rachel Roumet, indicated that they support more than 16 organizations to combat violence against women.
More than 600 people participated this Sunday in a five-kilometer walk in Caracas, organized by the Embassy of the European Union (EU) in Venezuela, within the framework of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, which commemorates the November 25 of each year.
“It is a commitment that we have all year, but that we want to celebrate today in particular because tomorrow is the international day against violence against women,” she told the EFE agency Rachel Roumet, EU Chargé d’Affaires in Caracas.
He stated that in Venezuela they want to combat violence against women, which is a global problem, and to do so, he indicated, the EU delegation in the country supports more than 16 organizations.
“We have a variety of support that we provide to these organizations all year round to confront all stages of violence that women may suffer throughout their lives,” said the chargé d’affaires.

She stressed that all women “have the right to live free, safe, to walk down the street and to say no, if they want to say no.”
In addition to the walk, there were activities such as yoga, dance therapy, storytelling for the children and music.
At least 142 femicides were recorded in Venezuela from the beginning of 2024 to the end of September, the month in which 17 cases were counted, according to the non-governmental organization Utopix, which indicates its data as an “under-record” considering that the figures may ” be even greater.”
In a monthly report, it indicated that, in that nine-month period of 2024, there was an average of one feminicide every 46 hours and one in frustration every 38 hours.
On October 31, Nicolás Maduro ordered his Executive to reach a point of “zero violence” against women, an issue that he considers “vital.” He also urged to educate children with values such as respect and equality.
