The process ends this Sunday at 11:59 p.m., but applicants not only have the digital portal of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies to register, but they can also do so by email.
Interested parties can register by sending their data and documents requested in the corresponding call to the following emails: [email protected]; [email protected] and [email protected]
In the message they must send a free writing that includes all the data established by the call: full name, the specific position for which they aspire, as well as a PDF attachment and, separately, all the documents established by the call, published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) on November 4, 2024.
In the coming months the three committees (Executive, Legislative and Judicial) will carry out three purges. In the end, a list of two to three candidates will be delivered for each of the 881 positions that will be elected on the first Sunday in June 2025.
The first will be from November 25 to December 14. The committees will verify that the registered applicants meet the constitutional and legal eligibility requirements, such as being Mexican by birth, lawyers by profession, with an average of more than 8 in their bachelor’s degree and having letters of recommendation from neighbors. That is, only those who have met the requirements will remain in the registry.
The second stage will be from December 16, 2024 to January 31, 2025. In this they will rate the suitability: the committees will evaluate the candidates considering their technical knowledge necessary to perform the position they are seeking and that they have distinguished themselves for their “honesty.” , good public reputation, competence and academic and professional background” during the exercise of their judicial activity.
Each of these aspects will have a score of up to 100 points: academic merits are worth 40; merits of professional experience 30; honesty and good public reputation 30%.
Those with a minimum of 80 points will be interviewed by the committee members. At this stage, gender parity and the aptitude of the applicant regarding the subject of specialization to which they are applying will be considered. After this, there will be a list with the best evaluated.
From February 1 to 4, the committees will carry out an insulation process to “adjust” the number of applicants for each position. There will be three candidates for minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), for magistrates of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF) and for the Disciplinary Court, and two more for Circuit magistrates and District judges .
Subsequently, the final lists must be sent to each Branch of the Union for “approval”; That is to say, although the Committees choose the candidates, it will be the Executive, the Legislative and the Judicial who approve or reject the contenders.
