Failed: Ipsos survey evaluates with note 2.0 management of migration in the Government of Sebastián Piñera

Ipsos published the fifth edition of its monthly report called “Ipsos Keys”, a measurement that aims to provide a current look at national and citizen events. In this version, the opinion of 801 people over 18 years of age, from all regions of the country, was consulted.

For this delivery, the topics analyzed were: Evaluation of the Government of Sebastián Piñera, Expectations of the Government of Gabriel Boric, Ómicron in Chile, Country Indicators under follow-up.

Evaluation of the Government of Sebastián Piñera

Given the slogan “From 1 to 7, with what grade do you evaluate the Government of President Piñera that began in March 2018 and ends in March 2022?”, 80% rate it as “Very bad” (grade from 1 to 4) , achieving an average grade of 3.0 and only 5% classify it as “Very good”.

Regarding Covid-19, the control of the pandemic was the best evaluated aspect of the Government of Sebastián Piñera, with an average score of 4.0 and 28% of people who evaluated it as “Very Good”, however in areas such as “Control of the Immigration Process” and “Public Security and Crime Control”, the president only had grades 2.2 and 2.0 respectively.

In this regard, Jorge López General Manager of Ipsos comments: “The transversality and homogeneity in the deficient evaluation of the management of the outgoing president, shows that there is a common opinion among Chileans that the outgoing government was overcome by the complex process of changes and transformations that the country asks for. Consequently, a management closure with low grades was highly expected given the loss of power typical of this transition period, the lesser importance of the pandemic, which was a strong point of the government, and the rise in the presence of the migratory conflict in regions. If we add to this the perception of a new type of violence for which citizens do not see effective control, the note 3 as a general average is more than explained.

Regarding the international perception of Chile, only 21% believe that Sebastián Piñera’s government contributed to strengthening the country’s image abroad and 48% declared that it did not help at all.

Regarding the question “What do you think should be the three priorities in terms of public policies for the Government of President Boric?”, 51% of Chileans believe “Fighting Crime” should be the main priority of the new government, As a second preference, 47% believe that “Controlling the Migratory Process” should be a priority for the president-elect, while in third place, 35% of those surveyed believe that “Improvements to the Health System” should be implemented during the next few years. years.

On the other hand, the aspects that Chileans most consider to improve during the new government of Gabriel Boric are: the “Right of Women and Equality Before the Law” (53%), “Pensions” and the “Right of Children , Girls and Adolescents (both with 43%) and “Sustainable Development and Protection of the Environment” with 41%.

Omicron in Chile

50% of Chileans consider the spread of the Omicron variant to be of high severity, 12% less than the previous month and only 26% believe that it is of low severity, with young people between 18 and 29 years of age having the least perception of risk on the virus (29%).

The government’s evaluation fell in relation to the handling of the pandemic, where only 31% qualified it with a positive note, 5% less than in January. On the other hand, 5 out of 10 Chileans evaluated it negatively.

Country Indicators in Follow-up

When questioned regarding various indicators of well-being and cohesion in the country, the aspects that people most criticize are: trust in institutions (85% negative evaluation), people’s state of mind (83%), general well-being of people (83%) and unity of the country (83%), among others.
