Eduardo Salhuana, president of the Congress of the Republicgave an interview to the newspaper El Comercio and was consulted about the situation of the president’s brother, Nicanor Boluarte, who has a sentence of 36 months of preventive detention for allegedly being the leader of the criminal organization ‘The Waykis in the Shadow’ which was responsible for placing people in key positions in the interior of the country, Salhuana believed that every citizen has the right to protect their freedom.
“Every citizen has the right to use the corresponding defense mechanisms. It must be specified that when a first instance judge establishes preventive detention, the accused citizen, be it Mr. Boluarte or whoever, can file an appeal and while the court does not ratify or resolve, he has the right to preserve his freedom,” he responded.
It is worth remembering that on November 19, legislator Salhuana declared in a very different way, since when asked about his position and that of his bench, Alliance for Progress, he stated that they already had a clear opinion on the matter and that if it were If necessary, the Police would have to capture Nicanor Boluarte if he does not surrender to justice voluntarily.
“Any citizen who commits a crime must be subjected to investigations by the Public Ministry and the Judiciary at the time, respecting due process, will be punished accordingly (…) and if he escapes (Nicanor Boluarte), the Police have have to take care of capturing him,” he mentioned.
