Ortiz, 46, joins the “Guerreros” of Santos replacing Ignacio Ambrizwho was fired after the team finished in last place in the Apertura tournament.

I once promised a person that at some point I was going to sit on the Santos Laguna bench, the time was going to be right “Now I’m happy here,” Ortiz said in a video where he was presented as a Santos Laguna strategist.
“I am going to work 24 hours so that we can see a competitive Santos, that makes us all proud to be able to go to the field and see that Santos that we love so much. My commitment is 100, I have no doubt that all together we will get the situation that our beloved club is experiencing today, glorious stages will return for our Santos,” he added.
Ortiz He was a Santos Laguna player from 2007 to 2008and was part of the champion team in the 2008 Clausura tournament.
The strategist returns to Santos Laguna, after directing the Mexican clubs América and Monterrey.
In addition to Santos Laguna, Ortiz played in the clubs America and Tigres UANL.
During his playing days, from 1998 to 2014, he also played for the Argentine teams Boca Juniors, San Lorenzo de Almagro, Unión de Santa Fe, Banfield, Estudiantes de La Plata, Vélez Sarsfield and Racing Club de Avellaneda.
With Boca Juniors, Estudiantes de La Plata and Vélez Sarsfield he was champion in 1998, 2006 and 2011, respectively.
As a strategist he has directed the Paraguayan clubs Sol de América and Sportivo Luqueño.
