Plenary will debate civil union for people of the same sex
After more than two years of waiting, the bill that establishes civil union for people of the same sex in Peru was approved yesterday by the Justice and Human Rights Commission of Congress.
Thus, the legal initiative was ready for voting in the plenary session of Parliament. Members of the LGTBIQ+ population are in favor and against the ruling.
With 12 votes in favor, 9 against and 4 abstentions, the aforementioned working group supported PL 2803-2022 by Alejandro Cavero (Avanza País) which aims to “regulate the legal effects of civil union, an institution constituted by two people of the same sex or the opposite sex, united in order to share a life project and who decide to bind themselves towards the other for their care, mutual support and participation in relevant decisions.
