Demonstrations against the Petro government: the balance of this Saturday's protests

Thousands of people gathered, this Saturday, November 23, in squares of the main cities of Colombia to demonstrate against the current National Government shouting “Petro out” and launch harangues against the reforms promoted by the Executive and against corruption.

In Bogotá, thousands of citizens met in the National Park and walked to the Plaza de Bolívar with banners that said ‘Out with Petro, due to impeachment’ or ‘So that the Colombia of the future is not the Venezuela of today’.

The participants carried Colombian flags and many took shelter from the sun at one moment and the rain at another. under umbrellas to express rejection of the president, Gustavo Petro.

The crowd also shouted: “Petro, wimp, learn from (the president of El Salvador, Nayib) Bukele” and “Petro, bandit, the people are offended“, among other harangues.

Meanwhile, retired general Eduardo Zapateiro, who was commander of the Army between 2019 and 2022 during the Government of Iván Duque, pointed to EFE who are asking for “union” for the 2026 elections.

In other cities like Medellin either Cali, Thousands of people also took to the streets with white t-shirts and banners with messages such as ‘Out with Petro now’ or ‘The worst government in history’.

Regarding the demonstrations, the Colombian president, who published a video of the protest in Bogotá, stated on the social network X: “No matter the number of those who express themselves in the country against me, they will have all the democratic guarantees of my government.“.

The president also stated that the busiest demonstration was in Medellín, with about 15,000 attendees. while in Bogotá about 4,000 people came out, just like in Cali, he assured.
