The Minister of Health, César Vásquez, reported that his sector has adopted actions imposed on officials of the General Directorate of Environmental Health and Food Safety (Digesa) and administrative procedures against supplier companies, following complaints about the delivery of food not suitable for the consumption to the school population through Qali Warma.

“I have declared the reorganization of Digesa and we immediately ordered the removal of five officials from that entity. In addition, the Technical Secretary, Comptroller’s Office and Attorney’s Office have been informed to carry out investigations against the Digesa officials and servants who are responsible. My administration ratifies its frontal fight against corruption,” said the minister in response to journalistic complaints about the distribution of food not suitable for consumption by schoolchildren.
During his participation in the Congressional Commission on Social Inclusion and People with Disabilities, the head of the Minsa mentioned that 31 supplier companies, out of a total of 120, that manufacture food for human consumption have also been sanctioned. through administrative sanctioning procedures for social programs.
“La Digesa, within the framework of its powers, has sanctioned an average of 900 companies per year due to non-compliance with health standards. It has also established more than 300 security measures (closing of the manufacturing plant) as part of health surveillance,” he explained.
He added that, before the complaint about Qali Warma, he had presented a bill for Digesa to become an independent and autonomous specialized technical body with regulatory powers, and in this way have no possibility of contamination with politics and efforts. on duty.
Through his technical team, the minister presented a timeline of actions carried out by his sector in the face of the alleged poisoning in educational institutions Gamaliel Churata (Puno), Señor de los Milagros and Cruzconga (Cajamarca). These actions range from health surveillance, sampling, lifting of product immobilization, inspection in food factories, among others.
