The Strategic Plan approved by the UN World Food Program (WFP) for Colombia, during the triennium 2025-2028, with a “historical” allocation of more than 592 million dollars, will allow”guarantee food security in many municipalities of the country“he said, this Friday, November 22, to the agency EFE the Deputy Minister of Multilateral Affairs, Kandya Obezo.
“We are very happy and excited with the approval of a program that is aligned with the priorities of the national government. The president, Gustavo Petro, has just said it in his participation in the framework of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro: if there is no hunger in the south, there is no migration to the north“he assured.

Obezo was in charge of presenting the plan at the organization’s headquarters in Rome, where she had the support of Japan, the United States, Ireland, the Dominican Republic, Switzerland, Canada, Spain, Hungary, China, France and Brazil, and was approved by general consensus.
The program, with a total value of $592,616,675, will focus on strengthen humanitarian assistance in emergencies and guarantee food security, with a particular focus on the most vulnerable populations such as migrants, victims of violence, psmall producers and children and adolescents, according to the Colombian Government.
“It will allow us to continue responding to these humanitarian challenges, to continue implementing inclusive policies to be able to continue on this path of overcoming the structural inequality that has fueled so many conflicts in our country.“added Obezo.

It is, explained the vice minister, “a work that we have already been doing with the WFP in such important regions of our country as the departments of Chocó or La Guajira” in “humanitarian assistance“.
“We have just gone through a winter crisis due to the rain phenomenon in these two departments and there the support of the humanitarian team of the WFP country was decisive in being able to bring to these communities, to these people, more than 400,000 people, 25 municipalities affected by this climate phenomenon, the humanitarian assistance that was needed in terms of food“, said.

Resources allocated by WFP will also allow “thus guaranteeing food security in many of the municipalities of our territory“.
